Untold Stories

Young people from Butetown travelled to London to watch Untold Stories Part 2, a documentary exploring the experiences of the Somali community in Tower Hamlets.

The film shares stories of different generations of British Somalis, including families with connections to Somaliland. After the screening, the young people met the director and contributors, sparking conversations about heritage, migration, identity and whose stories are heard.

Back in Butetown, creative writing sessions gave the group space to explore their own experiences. Through poetry, discussion and writing, they reflected on family, culture, belonging and what it means to grow up in Wales with connections to different places and traditions.

Their words celebrate the importance of telling your own story, in your own way – and making space for voices and experiences that have too often gone unheard.
