The Blodeuwedd Triptyph

The story of Blodeuwedd comes from the Mabinogion, a collection of medieval Welsh tales. Created from flowers to become the wife of Lleu, Blodeuwedd falls in love with another man and plots to kill her husband. Lleu survives, and Blodeuwedd is eventually transformed into an owl as punishment.

Inspired by this story, adults with learning disabilities worked with artist Niki Fogarty to create three fabric banners. Each captures a different moment in the tale: Blodeuwedd emerging from flowers, the attack on Lleu and her final transformation into an owl.

Using block printing, the group worked together to bring an ancient Welsh story to life through bold colour, pattern and images of the natural world.
