Our Wales is Proud
Adults with learning disabilities from Cardiff and the Vale of Glamorgan chose to explore LGBTQ+ history and celebrate their own identities.
Working with Amgueddfa Cymru, the group discovered LGBTQ+ stories from the museum’s collections and explored the history of Pride. These stories sparked conversations about identity, representation and the importance of being able to express who you are.
“The LGBTQ+ activity at St Fagans was important to me. After that I started to talk to people and be more open with the group about being gay.”
Inspired by what they discovered, the group created colourful banners and T-shirts expressing Pride and their own ideas about what being Welsh means to them. They wore and carried their creations at Cardiff Pride, celebrating identity, belonging and the freedom to be yourself.
