Our Voices

Young people from Butetown worked together to create this short film exploring what identity means to them.

Through conversation and filmmaking, they reflected on the different things that shape who they are, including heritage, culture, nationality, faith, family and friendships. Their identities connect them to different places and traditions, while Cardiff is the city that they call home.

Just as Cardiff has been shaped by generations of people from around the world, the young people in this film have been shaped by the city and by the friendships, experiences and opportunities it offers.

Their film shows that identity does not have to be one thing. It can bring together different histories, cultures and experiences – and continue to grow and change.

Watch the film below to hear their stories in their own words.
