More Than Just a Green Space

In 2023, the land around Sandfields Library was mostly open grass. Local volunteers had a different vision – to create a garden that could bring people and nature together.

Over the next two years, the community transformed the space. They created areas for growing food and wildlife, places for children to learn and play, and somewhere for people to sit, meet and spend time together.

These photo collages capture that transformation, from the first stages of work to the opening of Sandfields Community Garden in 2026.

More than just a green space, the garden has become a place for connection, friendship and community pride – created by local people for everyone to enjoy.
