First Choice & Innovate Trust

Adults with disabilities across Cardiff, the Vale of Glamorgan and Rhondda Cynon Taf

Wales REACH worked with First Choice Housing Association and Innovate Trust, bringing together adults with learning disabilities from across south-east Wales.

Through museum visits, local walks and creative workshops, people explored the places, histories and experiences that shape their identities. Working with artists and musicians, they used photography, painting, printing, mosaic, sculpture and music to share their own ideas about home, community and what being Welsh means to them.

Their work celebrates creativity, pride and self-expression – and the importance of everyone having the opportunity to be seen, heard and represented.

Wales REACH partnered with First Choice Housing Association, a social housing provider for people with disabilities, veterans and additional complex needs across Wales and Shropshire, and Innovate Trust, a supported living provider supporting adults with disabilities in their homes and communities across Cardiff, the Vale of Glamorgan, and Rhondda Cynon Taf. Engagement Leads Kath, Nico and Naomi brought together people from across South Wales to enjoy visits to Cardiff, St Fagan and Big Pit museums, an iron age hillfort, Barry War Museum and guided walks around ex-industrial sites now reclaimed by nature. Working with local musicians and artists, the groups worked with mosaic, printing, painting, sculpting and photography to express their identities and connection to place, from the importance of home to local and national history.
